The Role
Very enjoyable, got to see so much about the power industry: substations, power stations, transformers, the whole lot. Brilliant complement to university work.
Colleagues were always very friendly and work that was done was appreciated.
Was assigned a buddy who coordinated all the aspects of the placement and was brilliant for feddback and guidance etc.
There were plenty of visits which the placement was tailored around but at times when work was also thin due to other people being on holidays there wasnt much else to do other than extra reading and learning.
Unfortunately the department I was in managed projects which lasted several years and required numerous authorisations which meant that responsibility couldn't be gained in the relatively short timescale of 8 weeks.
Absolutely brilliant. Got to see each and every aspect of the high voltage power system in combination with presentations by experts.
The Company
Lighthearted and everyone was happy.
HR try and coordinate a large number of students and successfully do this every year.
The whole 8 weeks was essentially a tour of the business and the industry, with the company specifically spending all the time and effort in investment in me.
Subsidised/Company Gym
I have an interview in 2 weeks time with them and it should hopefully be very promising.
The Culture
The group was great, outgoing and friendly and good to spend time with.
It's very difficult to get a short term let and thus I was paying £100pw in rent. Otherwise the area isn't too expensive being in the North and there's a Greggs on every street for a cheap lunch.
It's Leeds.
Being a small office it was somewhat limited but there was weekly football to get involved in.
