The Role
My time at the Bank of England was particularly insightful and a great experince as an undergraduate who had just completed her first year.
The people at the Bank are truly one of a kind! Everyone is so warm and friendly and willing to help.
There is so much support avaible just at an ask. The Bank really aided me in my career development by providing presentation courses and an ample amount of talks that you could attend. I attended my first pre-MPC meeting during my internship.
I was relatively busy on a daily basis. As with most jobs, sometimes you have a lot of work and other times work goes at a slower pace. There is only so much responsibility that an organisation with so much public credibility can give to an undergraduate and I think the Bank really tried their best to balance this.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility which was good, however the work completed could have been slightly more challenging.
Not only does the Bank aide in buliding up your technical knowlededge it is also the perfect breeding ground for soft skills.
The Company
My office is very vibrant, fillend with different people from different walks of life.
When I arrived I had an initial meeting with my manger who set the objectives for my 6 weeks here and this provided a great sense of direction. I had regular reviews and a final appraisal and my mangers were very orgainesd throught the whole internship
Any opportunity for development that you need, the Bank are always willing to assist with.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Succeeding in this internship provides the opportunity to be fast-tracked. We haven't found out the results of the fast tracking yet but my team are very keen to have me back.
The Culture
There were after work drinks every friday where the interns gthered to socialise, these were particularly fun and aided in getting to know your fellow interns better
Travel is relatively expensive if you were coming from Zone 3 like I was, however the subsidised canteen provided good food and drinks everyday. Drinks in the City are at expected prices, but there are happy hours most days from 5-8
Good, depending on the people you were with
The Bank have a sports club in Debden which you recieve free membership for
