The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much and highly rate everything about it.
With my own desk, my team (15 people) were very friendly and helpful. Taking me on a leaving meal and buying me presents on my last day.
I was unfortunate in that the summer internship meant when I joined my manager was away so I reported to the Director. When my manager returned and I actually got to meet him, the Director went away so it was difficult to have continuous split when the time was split between managers.
Some days work was slow (due to the nature of my project) whilst other days I was eager to work late and get the work finished.
I was given full autonomy over my project but advice from the whole team. It was fantastic to be able to see a project through start-to-finish and show what I can do.
As the Bank of England leads the country in Economics, I was given valuable advice in terms of both career and academia from some of the country's leading economists.
The Company
The Bank of England office is such a prestigious place to be and whilst it was great walking into Threadneedle Street HO, the atmosphere was quite laid back at times and the flexibility given to working arrangements was perfect.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Potentially fasttracked a couple of stages on either the grad application or the penultimate year internship.
The Culture
Drinks were arranged each week and interns had the opportunity to bond and network.
Very expensive in central London.
Great bars in the city (with happy hours every day after work), but not really the place for dancing/clubbing.
