The Role
It was really enjoyable and interesting. I learned a lot and it has given me a great insight and helped me to decide if this is the right career path for me.
The team I worked in was quite busy so once I was trained in a few things, they were very happy that I was helping them out and it made me feel good that I was actually contributing to the team. Everyone I met was so nice and we all got along really well.
I was left on my own a few times but I think this was a good thing as it gave me opportunity to try things for myself. Whenever I asked for help I was given it and they guided me a lot through tasks so that I had enough understanding to be able to do them on my own, which was really helpful.
Some periods of time were much busier than others, such as month end. But I found that as I got into the internship there was enough to do to keep me busy even at the quieter times.
I was given responsibility of daily tasks which are essential. A new person joined whilst I was there and in their first week I was given responsibility of training them in my tasks. I think I was given about as much responsibility as an intern could be given working in this team.
I have gained so many skills. I have much more understanding of how banking works. Even if I don't end up going into banking, I still have simple skills like the right language to use in emails, which is really helpful. I'm sure the knowledge that I have about banking will also help me in the future as I hope to go into banking.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and nice. They were all fun people to work with.
It was a slow start, and it would have been better if there had been more of a plan from the beginning. But after the first week it picked up and I enjoyed it even more.
They invested a lot of their time in training me and I also had opportunities to do online courses to widen my knowledge. I had meetings set up with other departments to find out more about them as well.
National Travel
I really hope I get the opportunity to work for Santander in the future. I have had a really good experience with them and I know a bit what it would be like to work there and it's a really nice place to work.
The Culture
I was encouraged to meet the other interns and we all became friends especially when we went to the intern event in Leicester where we met all of the other interns.
I worked in London so it was really expensive. My train ticket was also expensive but definitely worth it.
I didn't go out that much there because I don't live in central London but when I did it was really good, even though it was expensive
Not really many opportunities.
