The Role
It would not be exaggerating to say this was the best year of me life so far. When I finished the year I knew I wanted to go back and have recently accepted a Graduate position with NTCE.
All in my department treated me as a valued team member, I was not seen as just 'the IP' as can be the case in other placements.
My direct supervisor, a Senior Engineer, was the perfect mentor throughout the placement and even carried on his support throughout the last year of my degree. He was very good at giving my helping hints, without just walking me through the problem. This allowed me to progress and improve very quickly.
I found your workload is very dependent on you as an IP. I was always asking my colleagues if I could help them. This meant I always had plenty of work, and I was rarely bored.
To start with I spent most my time shadowing other engineers and helping with small tasks. However, with my development, my senior started tasking me with bigger and more important projects throughout the year. By the and of the year I was tackling major projects that were deemed important enough to have regular meetings with management. I also got to travel to suppliers in Europe several times as part of these projects.
In my final year of university, I was taught a couple of modules that I already had experienced at NTCE. My Personal development was incredible, and greater than my time at university.
The Company
Generally very good atmosphere, my department had a good team feeling. NTCE is a professional environment, and there will be stress, but it's a great place to work.
Generally well organised, once you start most things such as additional training are organised through your Senior.
As long as their is a business case for training, i.e. it will help you with your job, there is plenty of training available.

The Culture
There is a GRIP (Graduate & Industrial Placement) committee that arrange social events. Most IPs and Grads get to know each other over the year with a good social scene.
The pay is more than enough to live and enjoy yourself around Milton Keynes.
Pretty average nightlife. A lot of of activities in MK: indoor skydiving, ski-sloop, lots of restaurants and bars.
Lots of clubs at NTCE, and most departments have their own social every few months.
