The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship experience. Throughout my time I gained a lot of new skills and understanding about the actuarial profession.
All of my colleagues were very welcoming from the beginning. Over the course of my internship I got to know some colleagues as a result of being set specific pieces of work by them.
I was given a mentor/buddy who I could ask any questions or get advice from throughout my internship and also a line manager who monitored my progress and was also very happy to answer any questions too. In addition, everyone in the office was always very happy to answer any queries I had.
I was busy especially towards the end of my internship. Workloads varied at the start, but I always had training documents to read if I was short of work.
I was given more and more responsibility as the internship progressed as a result of being more knowledgeable and colleagues understanding my experience on the job.
I am studying an actuarial related degree, so I hope to be able to use some of the knowledge I have learnt from my internship in my degree.
The Company
The office had a very welcoming atmosphere. Everyone was very committed to their work but there was definitely a sense of working as a team and supporting each other in addition to interacting with colleagues frequently.
The majority of the placement was very well organized and I was very pleased with the work I was given to complete.
I got the opportunity to sit in on some training specific days being help in the office which allowed me to understand more aspects of the job. There was a one day induction at the beginning of the internship, but no further intern specific training after that.
Subsidised Canteen
Future employment prospects are very good, and I would love to work at KPMG full time.
The Culture
The interns arranged one social at the start of the internship to get to know each other. With different work commitments it was difficult to all get together frequently.
It was reasonably cheap and a subsidized lunch canteen was very beneficial.
I didn't really get the chance to experience it whilst on my internship, but the nightlife is good.
There were a few sporting opportunities and company socials.
