The Role
I enjoyed my placement as I met new people and strengthened a number of skills along the way such as networking and time management.
I definitely felt valued by my department - they even took myself and an intern out just to tell us how much they valued us.
Everyone involved in the Academy and in my department were always offering help and support for me. It taught me that it is okay to approach people if you need help - no matter how small or big it is.
On some days, I was very busy and on others, there wasn't much to do. But I think this was more to do with department priorities and when there wasn't much to do, I could always find other work to do. Some weeks are just more different than others I guess.
I was definitely given a lot of responsibility. At first, I felt like I was thrown in the deep end but I realised that this was just a lesson my department wanted to teach me. Sometimes, you just have to "take a bull by the horns".
It will definitely help me learn how to manage my time, socialise and meet strangers and organise myself i.e. prioritising.
The Company
During busy times, somewhat dull, but my department in general are a fun bunch. I felt very welcomed and there was a good balance between work and joking around.
Quite organised. I understand the RBC Academy is quite new but I feel our year defintiely experienced a somewhat seamless placement.
They definitely invested in us in a way where they were giving us exposure in the banking industry and the financial support to help us through university. I guess the end goal is to make the summer intern programme and the graduate programme.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Quite appealing. I might need to prepare in advance for the numerical tests.
The Culture
Definitely a good social scene. RBC Academy and the Interns would often go out for dinner or drinks so it's all good. Everyone is really nice.
It's the City so... not that cheap.
It was great! Not many university students around in the area as it's during Summer but there are definitely a lot of places to go.
I was able to go for two charity events. Both were amazing and I met great people.
