The Role
Got an insight into how the market works and was even allowed to fly solo on occasion. Every project I was given was challenging yet immensely rewarding.
The team are a very close-knit bunch and instantly made me feel welcome. They each took turns in taking me out to the market, and talking to me about the finer points of Aviation insurance.
While I was always given help whenever I asked for it, the team really wanted to challenge me during my internship. I did the majority of my work without a huge amount of guidance from my colleagues, however I never felt out of my depth. The team were always on hand if I didn't understand anything. This was an extremely effective teaching method because Iearnt what was required very quickly.
There were moments where everything became extremely full on. But overall the team made a great effort not to dump too much work on me.
The team put a lot of trust in me to get jobs done and go into the market without supervision. This is something I am extremely grateful for. However, I would not go as far as to say I was running the show. It is fair to say that whilst I have learnt a lot, there is still much more to learn.
This is definitely a business that I could see myself doing. Therefore, what I have learnt during this internship are 'skills for life'. It has also taught me better time management and when to say no, skills that are also for life.
The Company
It was serious and professional when the time required, and it was fun and more relaxed when it could be, the perfect balance in my opinion.
From the word go, I knew that the team here had made a special effort to make sure that I was welcome and learnt as much as possible whilst I was here. Each broker took it upon themselves to teach me a different aspect of the business.
We had various training days and a charity project to help train us for public speaking amongst other things.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
It is definitely an area of business i'd recommend
The Culture
The social aspect of the placement was great. I regualrly had the chance with the other interns and my team.
London is very expensive.
There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby to the office and the atmosphere is always buzzing.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in activities, though not organised through Aon.
