The Role
Was very interesting and there is often opportunity to get seconded even within the time frame of a summer placement such as mine, however there were times when I was under loaded with work.
Everyone was very welcoming and happy to explain things
Line manager kept well up to date with what I was up to and my Discipline Lead frequently checked in with me as well.
Generally was more bored than I was hoping, seemed to a be a general problem with underloading new starters at Atkins.
Less than I would've hoped, but the work was nearly always relevent to my degree course and wasn't just making tea or filing at any point.
Excellent in terms of networking, transferable general skills and technical competency skills. Well worth doing.
The Company
At the Atkins office there was a large pool of people so was generally quite quiet, but at the secondment I got put on the office was smaller and more friendly.
There wasn't enough work to fill the 37.5 hours a week, and maybe a bit more prior organisation would've alleviated that. However my secondment was very well organised.
Was given a lot of free training that was worth doing, was very impressed with this aspect.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Very good, expanding a lot in the Energy sector at the minute and their graduate programmes are good.
The Culture
Yes, the graduate community was friendly and a few socials happened during my time of only 11 weeks so has a fairly good social scene generaly
Bristol is an expensive area, but it is also very good for student aged people as there is a lot to do.
Liked Bristol a lot, having never visited before and having had to move
Well organised Sport & Social Club.
