The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at SAP, it has given me a great insight into how corporate global firms work. At the start of the placement year I was slightly unsure about the role, but as the year has progressed, I have been given a variety of tasks and responsibilties in many different functions which has broadened my experienece.
I feel really valued by my team and I feel like I have integrated well into my team.
My manager and team were fantastic throughout the year helping and supporting me. Speaking to people who have had real experience and learning about their journey helped me think about what I really want to do after university. The buddy system for me worked really well as I always had someone to support me when I needed help or advice.
The work did fluctuate quite a lot during the year - when I had month end responsibilities it tended to be very busy and other times not so much. As my role changed throughout the year, I had busy and quiet periods but due to the transformation and getting involved in other projects, I have always been kept in my toes.
As my team dealt with a transformation this year, I felt really involved as I helped with some of the handover processes and took on extra responsibilities. Having a team that trusts you means that you do get extra responsibilities and really feel valued.
The skills that I have learnt and developed throughout the year will really stay with me in future job roles. Working in a professional business environment has helped me develop skills like business etiquette. Prioritising tasks is something that I have definitely learnt and I will be using that when I go back to university.
The Company
The team I worked in were all friendly and there was never a dull moment! With such a strong intern community and an open plan office, it really felt like an easy and fun place to work.
The internship was set up quite well - at times I have felt areas where there could be improvement but we are all given opportunities to give feedback and this is always taken on board. As an intern we are able to recruit our replacements and this opportunity has been valuable as we have seen the recruitment process from an employers perspective.
While there was no formal training or qualifications we could take part in, there were online learning sessions where you could improve skills like Mircrosoft Skills. I also had goals that I created with my manager in our 1-1 sessions.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
There is no formal graduate scheme at SAP which is slightly disappointing as if there was the right role in my team I would like to come back.
The Culture
There was always something going on every week with 34 interns.
London can be expensive at times but we work and live in Greater London so there are areas around here that are cheaper. The trains do not take long to get into central London so we always have a choice.
There is not much nightlife in Feltham but Richmond is not that far away and always a great place to go for drinks.
There are a few activities such as SAP Football and Netball and a lot of teams go out for meals.
