The Role
The company atmosphere and work culture and ethos was great and I I felt very included. However I do not feel that this line of work is exactly the type of thing I would like to go in to. I was not given a variety of work to do as it was hard being on a summer placement when the work is quiet. I had very few interactions outside of the office, and I spent the majority of the day looking at computer screens which was tiring for my eyes.
I felt valued by my colleagues as they always appreciated any work I did for them. They included me on any lunches and evenings out where possible and were always conscious of inviting me where possible.
I was given a high level of support and guidance by the whole team who made me feel so welcome. They always thoroughly explained what I was to do and were always willing to answer any questions I had. They made me feel very at home.
I always had things to do, however they were occasionally pieces of work that were not very important just so I had something to do, so I felt like my efforts may sometimes be wasted. I did not get very many opportunities to leave the office, so a lot of my work was computer research based which was too long at times.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility on some projects, however I was often given the same job for each project so I felt I did not get to learn a wide variety of tasks. However I was given one valuation report to fill in from a template which I felt was a higher level of responsibility.
I feel that several of the skills I gained will help in my future studies as I have gained in confidence working in a team business environment. I feel more confident communicating within the team as well as on the phones. I also feel I have learnt skills on excel and in report writing which I feel are useful transferable skills for the future.
The Company
Everyone was extremely relaxed and happy and willing to interact in conversation throughout the day. The whole office made an effort to be friendly and make an effort with me.
The placement was organised very well, with constant emails from the HR department and everyone aware of when tests and meetings had to be done.
Several colleagues made a lot of effort helping me learn to write reports and explaining the background details of how to do valuations.
As much as I have learnt a great deal over my placement I am not sure if it is exactly what I want to go into in the future and so I will probably not be pursuing a job in the future with Savills.
The Culture
They went out for lunch a couple of times in the month I was there, but it was fairly quiet in the office over Summer so we only went out for drinks after work once.
I lived at home during my placement and the area is not particularly expensive to socialise in.
I have lived in the area all my life and so I know a lot of areas that are good to go out in and so I love the nighlife!
It was very quiet in the office, and there were only 2 people in my area of a similar age, who were off for a week each throughout the placement. However I did join a gym that the girls went to so we spent several lunchtimes going to classes.
