The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Aon. I got to work for a range of different clients and got to do a lot of different tasks. No two days were the same.
I completed a lot of work for my colleagues and received all the support I needed. They were very helpful and made me feel like a part of the team and I received some really positive feedback from them as well.
I received all the support I needed and all my questions were answered. My buddies helped me with settling in and everything else I needed help with. I felt like they really made an effort to make sure that I understand what is going on and what I need to do to succeed.
There were times when I was struggling to find work and consequently those days felt quite long. On the other hand there were also weeks when I suddenly had a lot of work and had to work a little bit overtime in order to complete everything on time. However, mostly there was a nice balance and I was able to manage my time efficiently.
I was given a lot of different tasks where I was mainly responsible for their completion and then my work was just peer reviewed. I was fully responsible for producing two reports and an investment report and while it was challenging it was also interesting and helped me develop various skills such as research, communication and problem solving skills.
I found that my previous studies helped me to understand the business environment better. Also some technical skills I learned at university were of great help during my internship. My time at the investment department, however, has been extremely valuable regarding my master's studies in investment manager which I start next month. It has made me confident that I want to pursue a career in investment and I have learned a lot about the industry. In general I have developed a range of other skills that will certainly be useful throughout my career such as networking, communication, research, writing, listening, problem solving, time management and technical skills.
The Company
Everyone was extremely friendly and close. It felt like being part of a real time. On the whole, all of the people I met were nice and helpful and contributed towards an incredible athmosphere.
I think the internship was well structured with a good balance of training, on the job time and an additional corporate social responsibility project on the side.
Aon definitely invests in its interns, I feel like I am fully supported and have all the resources I need. The training was quite good, although the technical skills would be good to include in internal training although you do learn on the job as well. Additionally I took some Aon University courses as part of my internal training to learn more about the financial services regulations, compliance and anti-money laundering. The internship helped me develop a range of skills that will be very useful, particularly the skills learned during our corporate social responsibility project.

I find Aon a great company to work for. They certainly care for their employees and display exactly the values I am looking for in an employer (integrity, team work, career opportunities, diversity, corporate social responsibility..). If I am offered a job, I will gladly accept the offer and look forward to an interesting start to my professional career.
The Culture
We all worked together really well. I certainly felt everyone was friendly, fun and professional. The social scene was good and we organised quite a few social events with the interns as well as other colleagues from the offices.
St Albans is not a very cheap place to live in, but the cost of socialising was good. I did attend quite a few events in London which was expensive and social events cost a lot, but were mainly worth it as I got to network.
The pub and bar scene were really good, a really good mix of different places. There are just two nightclubs so late night socialising was not really good in St Albans, but luckily London is only 20 minutes away.
Aon works with a wide range of different charities and you can easily get involved with charity work. There are also opportunities to play sport with Aon colleagues.
