The Role
The work was challenging without being impossible and there was almost always something for me to do
My team were really friendly and made me feel relaxed but responsible for the work
My manager sat right next to me and was always willing to dedicate time to answer my questions and show me how to do something
Most days I had plenty to do without it feeling like an overload. Some days were a bit slower but I think that's to be expected in any internship
Most of the time I was working on projects with one or two other team members but there were a few tasks for which I was solely responsible
As an engineer, the computer training provided, especially in the advanced use of microsoft excel, was extremely helpful and will definitely make some of my university projects quicker and easier
The Company
Everybody was relaxed and helpful. People were always chatting and laughing.
Personally I felt my internship was really well organised by both my manager and the HR team, though I do know of other interns who experienced some problems
Almos the entire first week was dedicated to training sessions for all of the interns, varying from computer training courses to presentation advice from magicians!
Subsidised Canteen
They consider every intern for a permanent position on the graduate scheme. I have a week lef tof the internship so should find out soon whether I have been successful
The Culture
I often met up with other interns for lunch and occasionally for drinks after work. There were also several events organised by UBS themselves for the interns to socialise
In central London so inevitably expensive though the other employees were always recommending cheap good places to eat and drink. Fortunately I could live at home and commute though I know some interns spent a considerable amount on accomodation for the summer
London so pretty good and varied though can be expensive
We were encouraged to take part in volunteering such as the Shoreditch games where we helped organise a sports day for about 200 school children
