The Role
Although there were times when I didn't enjoy the job, this is infact the job that a lot of people on my course were competing for,and I was the lucky person who got the job and got to start my ACA qualification.
This is a team based jobs, with different teams each week. Incharges and managers would thank you for your hard work, and I generally did feel valued.
There were always managers available to talk to, and I was treat exactly like a graduate so went through the same appraisal process as them, so that I could see where I needed to develop.
There were times when I didn't have much to do and times when I had lots to do, but this is part of the nature of the business.
You are given a lot of responsibility from day one, however this responsibilty increases as you go through the years.
The skills I developed this year are massive, they will help me in my final year and they will definately be used when I return to KPMG once I graduate.
The Company
Due to the nature of the business (a proffessional accountant) there was a lot of serious times, however there was fun to be had whilst out at clients. (This wasn't really an office job).
As mentioned previously, I was treated exactly like a graduate so there was no organisation issues.
They put me through the first stage of the ACA exams. I went all the training courses for my year, and I went through the appraisal like everyone else for my personal development.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I was offered a job when I graduate which I will be taking.
The Culture
Since KPMG takes on hundreds of people each year, in the Leeds office there were over 20 new starters and I socialised a lot with them and apart from when it got close to exam time there was a lot going on.
I still lived in student accomodation and althoug Leeds is a cheap city to socialise in, we sometimes went to the more flashy and expensive places.
Leeds is a brilliant city, and there are so many good nights to be had.
There were a few activities organised by LCASS but I wouldn't say there was a lot to get involved in which was organised through work.
