The Role
Slow to start with as it takes a while to get systems access, but once that was sorted and I began my main project, It became more enjoyable.
I felt well respected by my team, especially once they saw the standard of work I could deliver.
Working in a busy team means that you're manager cannot devote 100% of their time to supporting you. However, the support I did receive was key to helping me through my projects and work.
Starts and finishes with little/no work, but once you receive your main proejct/tasks, there is definitely enough work to fill up your day without having to stay really late on a regualr basis.
I was given full responsbility of leading and delivering my main project.
I learnt a lot about financial markets, communication skills as well as key software skills
The Company
Particulary exciting on the trading floor, although more quiet in other areas.
From a HR perspective it was very well organised e.g. good induction week and lots of intern events. I would have rated this higher if I didn't have the problems in trying to get systems/software access. This seems typical of most large business though...
Lots of time and opportunities to further my knowledge of financial markets/products etc. Most people are open to shadowing for half an hour or so, plus there are lots of intern training events.
Hopefully I will be offered a graduate job with the company!
The Culture
The intern events were very good for meeting new interns. We also organised the occasional lunch/drinks.
Central London is very expensive for going out and socialising. It's also definitely cheaper to live at home and commute if you can!
Lots of pubs/bars in the immediate area. In addition, there are clubs if you're will to get a short tube journey.
We had the chance to spend a day teaching a large number of pupils from local schools different sports. Apart from that though, not much else.
