The Role
I did enjoy it, though parts of it were frustratingly constrained by bureaucracy and my role did not really match up to what I'd been led to believe when I applied.
My team in particular made me feel very welcome and valued.
My line manager and her manager were very supportive, without micromanaging and preventing me coming up with my own ideas.
It varied a great deal. There were a few weeks during which I was very busy with reports and meetings and the like, and other periods where I didn't have enough to properly fill my time. I think that was due to the nature of my role more than the placement set up.
Quite a bit, although my manager did regularly check that I was happy and delivering as required.
Not really much assistance with my degree studies, but then I didn't take the placement for that reason. The experience of working in a big corporate, of running meetings and giving professional presentations will certainly be useful after my degree
The Company
The office was very open plan, and the hot desking meant that you got to know a lot of people. It was friendly, but professional. I got on very well with my team
The placement was quite well organised, especially with regard to the provision of accommodation and the organisation of training and development days.
A few training days, and the opportunity to visit and learn from people across the business.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Fairly appealing as the graduate scheme seems well set up and good experience. However it was not clear what the chances of advancement are after the graduate placement.
The Culture
The summer placement students based in Windsor, Staines and London were all provided accommodation together so the social scene was good. Less so amongst my team, though we got on well in the office and they took me for lunch at the end of my time there
Staines, so not as pricey as central London but not cheap either
Staines was not so great, Windsor was nearby and better, but a little expensive
Lots. Charity work was actively encouraged, plus there were activities in the local area to get involved with if you wanted to.
