The Role
It was a great opportunity, met some great people and learned a lot about power generation
Senior staff would frequently take some time out of their schedule to chat about how things are going
Unfortunately my line manager was very busy during my placement but whenever he was around he would check in and make sure everything was going well
I would have like to have had a bit more work today but unfortunately the time frame that I was there meant that I wouldn't be able to see the projects through to the end
I was given quite a lot of responsibility, it was unfortunate that the project I was working on ended up being shelved due to a separate project that went ahead
While the specific information that I had been tought at uni wasn't really applicable the skills I had developed from group projects and report writing were utilised on a day to day basis
The Company
The office had a minimal staff but whenever there were people in it was a great place to work
It felt like some of the engineers were forgotten about a little bit, mainly due to some of the sites being quite remote, it would have been nice if an event had been organised for the engineers to get together
We had a development day and a workshop on presenting that helped us to bond as a group and also helped to devlop skills vital in industry
Flexi Time
National Travel
I would definitely consider taking a place on the graduate scheme
The Culture
It was a bit unfortunate that the engineering placements were quite remote which made it more difficult to socialise but whenever we did get together it was always a good time
Living and socialising wasn't too expensive but travel was a bit more of an issue
The nightlife was pretty good
As part of the placement we did some charity work which we organised ourselves
