The Role
It was brilliant to learn about energy generation at a gas fired power station. The work I did was always interesting and enjoyable, with new exciting projects to learn about. It was also really enjoyable to take part in development days and sessions where I had the opportunity to meet the other interns whilst also developing my communication, presentation and IT skills amongst other things.
Definitely! Never made to feel inferior as an intern, more a new colleague eager to learn.
The line manager and managment at Centrica were great. Also had time to speak and chat through ideas and explain complicated parts of the power station. Guidance on projects could have been more strict and direct but it was nice to be able to be flexible and take control of my own project.
Yes! There is never a dull moment at a power station. If every the office work dried up, I would jump into my overalls and safety boots and find someone to help around site.
I was responsible for my own personal development more than anything and so i had to keep searching for ways to improve. After a short amount of time I was responsible for being the site contact for contract partners and thrown in at the deep end to have to provide them with answers and help.
I have learnt a lot about professional engineering practice as well as presentation of work and myself, which will be crucial in completing my masters course
The Company
Working at a powerstation, the office was never particularly busy as most of the work was conducted on site. Very friendly and helpful when in the office however.
Very well, not too rigid so allowed for flexibility and going for learning trips to other power stations for example. The internship was set up very well by the Centrica Graduate Recruitment team with provided accomodation being a huge bonus.
I attended 3 development days, as well as going on 3 different power station trips. The company really made an effort to invest time and money into allowing me the opportunity to develop during my internship

Applying for a place on the graduate scheme. Looks like an excellent engineering scheme with 4 year long work placements meaning that I will get exposure to 4 different placements within one company.
The Culture
Yes. I lived with two other interns, and had the opportunity to meet others at development days. Always a great fun atmoshpere.
Very cheap! Living in cleethorpes there was a brilliant night life and very affordable.
Good! Cleethorpes is a cheap and fun place to go out.
I was able to volunteer for the RNLI in the local area and get involved with raising money for them. I joined a local gym and met some people through that.
