The Role
It was really enjoyable - the work is highly interesting and a modern office with friendly colleagues make for a great atmosphere.
My team welcomed me warmly on the first day and appreciated my contribution to the project throughout.
My manager was very supportive and we had several one-to-one meetings where I was able to discuss my progress and raise any issues I had. I was also encouraged to speak to my manager at any point.
I had the right amount of work to do, with deadlines set a few days/weeks in advance so I could manage my tasks effectively.
The work I was tasked with was real work that needed doing so I felt my responsibility was high.
I gained skills in the application of engineering theory as well as time management, effective communication and IT proficiency.
The Company
Very friendly colleagues with just the right balance between professionalism and familiarity.
There was a clear aim for me to achieve, but still allowing for flexibility for when more work was needed.
The company was willing to give me a whole day training course in using a software tool.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
At the end of my placement, HR spoke to me about the opportunity to return for a permanent role.
The Culture
At work, placement students and colleagues sit together at lunch
I lived in Crawley which is not too expensive for accommodation - you'll have no problems finding somewhere to rent here as Gatwick airport is nearby and many people rent rooms to fill the demand from cabin crew.
There are a couple of clubs and quite a few pubs. Brighton is also about 40 minutes by train so that's always an option too for a very good night out.
There are a few opportunities which are availble however it depends on project deadlines and project timelines.
