    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • One of the more enjoyable banks to work for. Was given real responsibility and I was often encouraged to go out and meet or shadow people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues although busy did try to show me how to do things. It can be high pressured, and tempers can fray, but it is never personal and the team functions well as a unit.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was quite senior, and did not spend much time with us. On a day to day basis though I was managed by a supervisor. There were opportunities to meet senior management at events arranged by HR.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were some long hours, and I was always kept busy. The hours are longer than average, but you get what you put in, and to have work usually means they trust you to do it!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • By the end I was competent enough to process some types of transactions on my own, and I felt the team trusted me. We always peer review each others work so there was always a safety net even if I did things wrong.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a lot of soft skills there, and learnt what investment banking is like to work in as an industry. I also developed good attention to detail and also useful excel skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The team was lively, and there were regular socials. My team enjoyed having snacks lying around, and people were not afraid to just have a chat sometimes.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Events were well organised for HR with many socials for interns. Team had a clear idea of what they wanted me to do, and taught me accordingly.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship was more about learning on the job, rather than any investment in training. However they did invest in many events so that we could meet senior people in the business and hear about their experiences.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to consider returning to JP Morgan in the future, as I think it is a good place to work with a diverse amount of people.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene, and a combination of HR run events as well as intern arranged ones. There was always something to do each week!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive in the city! But this is expected in London so just make the most of the time there!

  • London is a busy city, lots of bars, clubs and pubs so you cannot complain.

  • Not too many, but we were able to get involved in some volunteering. There are also some sports or societies that you can join.
