About You
Genuinely valuable and enjoyable.
Significant focus on the vacation schemes from all levels of seniority. Considered as actual members of the team, with employees as keen to impress me with the firm as I was with my abilities.
Having a supervisor during each seat meant I always had a point of contact, and constant contact with a very supportive trainee buddy.
Not necessarily directly in my degree, but certainly directly applicable to my future career aspirations.
The Company
The graduate recruitment team were clearly well practiced in organising the schemes - very organised and thought through. Had the right balance of organised presentations/contact and time open to be flexible for my supervisor.
Genuinely pleasant. All the members of the firm were pleasant and welcoming, as were graduate recruitment. All of the students on the scheme got on well too and many have kept in touch.
Significant investment on my personal skills and the general skills necessary in a legal career.
As informative as it could be over the short period. Everyone left with a strong feeling of wanting to come back.
It was difficult for it not to. I have heard some firms attempt to separate the vacation scheme students from the general culture - at A&O, this wasn't the case at all, being fully immersed.
Everything Else
I was paid.
There were numerous formal and informal opportunities. If I wanted to speak to someone, I would go and knock on their door.
Really enjoyable and well organised.
Being able to have so much contact with various members of the firm meant it was possible to genuinely get to know them and their interests.
Definitely. If you are interested in a career in commercial law, this is the ideal internship.
