About You
Very useful. Coming from a non-UK work environment, the internship really gave me a glimpse of what it might be to live and work in the UK
I understand that the vacation scheme is more of a way to get to know the firm and people, and that responsibility will necessarily be minimal, but everyone made great effort to give us as much of an insight as possible. Little touches, such as a name plate designation, and attention from senior employees made a lot of difference.
Lots. There were both formal and informal mechanisms for guidance and support. Everyday was packed with orientations and social events. The buddy system was especially helpful, given that HR tried their best to provide buddies with similar interests and backgrounds, HR was always on call, and always helpful.
Did not get a tremendous amount of work, but definitely learnt loads about the firm and its culture,
The Company
Supremely well structured. Every day was scheduled, and a lot of thought had clearly been put into the vacation scheme to ensure that students would get a broad a range of experiences as possible.
As mentioned above, lots of social events to allow informal interaction. The trainers were particularly interested in making sure that the students had a good placement.
Very structured feedback session in the middle of the vac scheme helped a lot. There was also continuous support available from supervisors and HR.
Continuous interaction with peers and persons actually occupying a full-time role was greatly instrumental.
The little things gave away a lot. Their commitment to pro-bono, their open door policy, actual availability of senior employees.
Everything Else
Fully paid and reimbursed for all my expenses. Not as generous as other competing law firms, but adequate nonetheless.
Absolutely! Specific events had been designed to facilitate networking, but we were also encouraged to approach anyone and have a chat.
Same as above.
Yes, there was a notice board which was very informative about AnO activities outside of work.
A wonderful opportunity.
