The Role
I really enjoyed the Savills Summer Scheme. It is very well organised and gives you a great insight into what working for the firm is like. HR organise a number of presentations from a variety of departments and numerous social events from a Intern drinks to a Fee Earner Networking Lunch.
I think that my colleagues valued me, especially those who I was carrying out work for.
All interns are given a graduate mentor which is great as it was not long ago that they were in your shoes so they are able to help you and answer any questions you have. The team were also very happy to answer any questions I had.
It varied - At the start of the internship I was not that busy but when I asked around the team someone would find me something to do. As the month went on and I became more familiar with the tasks that the team performed on a day to day basis, I was given more responsibility and more projects to work on. HR also give you a project to undertake during your placement and organise many talks and events so if you haven't got much work at the time there is always something to do.
As time went on I was given more and more responsibility. Having done the Savills Insight Week over Easter in the same department but in a different team, meant that I was familiar with many of the tasks that I was asked to carry out so I didn't need much support.
I am starting a Masters in Real Estate in September so the work I have carried out will definitely assist my studies. It has also helped to enhance some of my soft skills that will help me when applying to Graduate Schemes and in my future career.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and very willing to answer any questions. I was also interested to find out about other departments in the firm so I emailed several people and they were all very happy to meet up with me and talk to me about what their job involves.
Very well - Lots of social events and talks were organised. The only negative was that I was placed in the same department as I was on the Insight Week and I would have liked to experience a different area of the business.
In general terms Savills invested highly in me by giving me this experience. There was no formal training but having a mentor was invaluable.
