About You
I really enjoyed the insight experience as it has been an industry that I have always wanted to find out more about. I enjoyed learning about the challenges and dynamics of the industry and the fact that employees are presented with different challenges daily. This was one of the best insights that I have been on and I am not sure what could have been done better if they were to run the event it again.
I was only with the company for a short period of time, but despite this I felt like employees were well valued and there were good relationships between colleagues in different teams throughout the company. The employees that I spoke to also informed me that the company did a lot to care for them and listened to their queries and if they had any issues which they needed help with in solving.
There were people from graduate recruitment at the insight event who were happy to answer any questions that we had. Specifically for me, this was to assure me that my academic performance would not be a problem when applying for a graduate role as this was something that I was worried about. They also explained that once you join, there is a lot of support from your manager, buddies, mentors, etc.
I have managed to develop many of my skills, both from a technical and qualitative perspective. I know now what I need to do in my degree studies in order to make this a viable career option for me in the future. There was also a presenting with impact skills session which helped me a lot to improve my presentation ability and to give me more confidence which is something that had affected me before when presenting.
The Company
The insight was well structured and organised. You had time to talk to employees from the company so there was the opportunity for you to ask any questions that you had and get a real feel of the atmosphere. The only possible downside was the sheer number of activities which they had which meant things felt a bit rushed and I think that the insight might have been better if it was spread out over a couple more days.
It was a really friendly atmosphere and I got to meet lots of new people and expand my social network. This was also down to the type of people that were on the insight. It also seemed that the atmosphere when you actually work there is also really energetic and exciting. The people that I spoke to were really willing to help and told me that this was the best place that they had worked.
The firm invests a lot in you by giving you the freedom to go on training courses to work on your weaknesses. They even pay for these options if you need help with the finances. On the insight, there was a presenting with impact skills session which taught me a lot about presenting to large audiences and definitely improved my abilities which is something that I have struggled with in the past before.
This insight helped me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company because I was able to speak to lots of people who do work for the company full-time. They were able to explain what they do on a daily basis and the different challenges that they face which really helped me to envisage what the different roles are like within different areas of the company.
The insight helped me understand the company culture as there was a presentation specifically on this. Furthermore, the people that I spoke to were able to explain what they thought about the culture and how it compares to the cultures of previous companies that they had worked at before, although I think it is difficult to get a true understanding of the company culture without working there.
Everything Else
There was a specific networking event which allowed me to talk to lots of people within the business and expand my network which should create more opportunities for me in the future.. Also, people told me that once you join, there are frequent opportunities to network throughout the business and there are also social event opportunities where you can build stronger relationships between work colleagues.
