The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my year at Disney. I had two great managers who made me feel appreciated and gave me a lot of responsibility. The office had a very positive working atmosphere, and it was easy to talk to everyone on my floor.
I felt valued by my managers and my team, and it was great to receive praise for the work I produced.
If I struggled with any of the daily tasks, I approached my manager and she gave me very constructive advice and was very helpful. I had weekly catch ups with my manager, which was very effective. If I told her that I wasn't very good at presentations (for example), she would push me by giving me more presentations to do and improve on this skill.
I worked in a couple of teams, which increased my workload, but it was very manageable and very interesting at the same time.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility by my managers. I was trusted to communicate to senior team members in our global and EMEA offices, in addition to managing some projects and interacting with agencies and internal team members. My role also involved managing release schedules, which was very important for a number of internal departments, so this was also a great responsibility.
I have gained an insight into how a large and thriving business operates, which is very useful for my future career if I choose to work in a large multinational company. Also, I have enhanced my communication and presentation skills, which not only will help in my final year, but will be very useful in the future.
The Company
It was a very positive and hard working atmosphere. It felt like every week it was someone's birthday, or a sale and celebrating an achievement. With posters and banners all over the floor, it was a generally positive and open place to work in and it felt exciting to walk into the office everyday!
It was very well organised.
There were occasional training sessions for Mac users, or creative briefs and for using SAP/internal systems.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Travel loan
There is no graduate scheme, but the contacts that you have made will definitely help if you would like to work at Disney once graduating.
The Culture
Yes! There were quite a few interns on my floor, and we went for drinks quite regularly after work.
It's London, so not cheap to socialise in bars etc. I lived at home, so it wasn't so bad, as I only really had to pay for travel, which I received a season ticket loan for.
Lots of bars/clubs in London
There were a number of after work activities, which colleagues set up, such as Zumba classes, kickboxing, quiz nights etc.
