The Role
I found my summer internship with Tesco very enjoyable. Although I was placed within a department I was unsure about initially, the team was extremely welcoming and willing to involve me in the projects they were currently undertaking.
The team were great and I felt like I fit in very quickly. There were one or two occasions that colleagues outside of the team were rude, but this was rare and my team were supportive in these occasions.
My line manager gave me plenty of support and guidance. I was allocated a project to oversee and lead which gave me a good amount of responsibility, experience and knowledge of Tesco.
There were days where I was very busy, and had meetings constantly to attend. However there were days where I had less to do because I was waiting on others to get back to me in order to proceed.
My project was fundamental to the running of a wider programme so I felt like I was given a huge amount of responsibility during the internship.
The placement is not directly related to my degree, but will assist because of organisational skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills that were developed throughout the 10 weeks.
The Company
The office was quite laid back and chilled.
My team were great and thought of a good project for me to get involved in quickly. The entry level team had plenty of development days and talks for us to attend which were useful. However, I don't feel my HR was very organised as when I attended my store placement, they had no idea I was due to work there for those days. I also had to chase HR up about my sign off presentation and interview as I hadn't heard anything from them about it in the last few weeks.
The company were great with development days and talks. I have also heard that Tesco are very eager to take on entry level employees and that their graduate scheme is excellent in terms of development.

Subsidised/Company Gym
I would love the opportunity to return on the Tesco graduate scheme.
The Culture
There were around 10 other interns on my internship.
I lived at home in London so commuting to Hertfordshire was quite expensive.
There isn't much of a night scene in Welwyn Garden City, however I lived and commuted from London, which is 30 minutes away, so it didn't matter.
There were a couple of events that interns were invited to, like a sports day and a ball. They were graduate events that we were invited to.
