The Role
Pleasant experience overall, very enjoyable working atmosphere, nice collegues and fellow interns. Not particularly exciting work that I happen to get, but it was nice to have exposure to a different side of the business.
It has a generally warm atmosphere in HSBC, you will be valued if you make yourself known which I did not do nearly enough.
Having previously done similar work, I required very little support, but in the case where support and guidance were needed, my supervisors were incredibly supportive.
Work comes very slowly in the first week or two due to steep learning curve, the fact that HSBC is a big bank also did not help. It picked up in pace after that, but slowed down again once I have finished. At times, it is up to me to seek out work. There were also training modules online avaliable to spend my time on as well.
The component I have developed/maintained were not critical but a useful bonus to the team nonetheless.
Although the job is not very stimulating, the skills that were honed within this internship were very valuable. In the age of big data, I feel the real world experience in data management would prove useful sooner or later.
The Company
Very warm and friendly. Could be fun at times.
Very well organised, except there was no option to choose between different role (e.g. most of us wanted to be a developer and did not get it)
We had presentation workshops, behavioural training and different presentation series from various people.

Very appealing in every aspect except the nature of the work at the moment(non-developer).
The Culture
Drinks almost every week, activities sometimes during the weekend though I did not attend.
Cost of living and socialising is high but that is London in general.
