The Role
Due to some weaknesses in factors below it was a bit harder to enjoyed the internship.
Some colleagues valued my work, while others didn't care about my presence at all.
For the first 2 weeks I didnt get any support or guidance. I was involved in meetings to learn things but didn't get my objectives. After thhat my superviser left for maternity leave, at which point I spent 3 weeks being unsupervised. Whenever I had any questions my manager would happily answer them (when he was present) and tried to involve me in as much meetings as possible so I could learn (even though it wasnt relevant to my work, and I didn't have anything to deliver).
first three weeks I had nothing to do at all. last 2 weeks i had nothing to do as well the five weeks in the middle where busy. So there was not enough work as all, and it was not evenly spaced.
Even though I was a Customer Management intern working with Project Managers, my tasks where to book meetings and book rooms. I got to listen in on various different projects but my responsiblities were responsibilities of a secretary.
I have learnt a lot industry specific information as well as some administrational knowledge which will be useful in future, not sure if it will be useful in the degree I study.
The Company
Everyone nice and friendly. People constantly out for business trips. Not a lot of conversations as everyone was busy with their work.
Not organised at all. When I came I didnt have my own laptop for 2 weeks, problems with email and login didn't get my objectvies until middle of week 3, objectvies very vagues, not well planned.
A lot time was spent teaching me industry specific things. I went to one training course. Also got time to speak to experts in every departments about their jobs. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.
Organisation seems to be looking for something who is an expert in the field and will quietly do their job rather than ambitios people who want to change things for the best and stear the excisting environment. My manager told me he would recommend the company to hire me again but I dont feel like I belong here.
The Culture
I was isolated from all other interns and didn't get a graduate buddy like most other interns
Derby- 100£ per week for the student accomodation Free shuttle service to work (very bad timetable, not very convinient)
Not much to do in derby at all. I havent stayed in Derby for a single weekend, always went away
We had the AGA community which offered different activities, but they didn't seem to interesting. Maybe 1 activity was good out of all 10 weeks. As for the team activities, there was a BBQ of one of the team members, but I wasnt invited...
