The Role
I had a great time within the Technology division, with challenging work given and various activities and talks to help me improve my knowledge of the finance industry
My colleagues, especially the graduates, are willing to share their experiences with me, which I find really useful.
My line manager ensured that I was doing what I really wanted during the internship and constantly checked in on me to make sure I'm on track.
I had enough work to do on a daily basis, though at some times I can be slightly free due to dependencies from other colleagues
I was given the task to design a report that will actually be used by the front office in the future, which gave me a sense of achievement upon completion. However, I was not directly involved in the day-to-day activities/projects of the team
The technical skills I have picked up have given me a start in the area of web development, which will greatly assist me in my future career.
The Company
Colleagues were friendly, not too stressful, and willing to help.
On top of day-to-day work, there was a series of talks and lunch-and-learns that helped me better my understanding of the finance industry. Some of the talks were also technology-focused, which were certainly helpful for those in the technology division.
There was a week of professional and technical training at the start and also a presentation workshop during the internship.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
It seems like there will be a good chance to get on the graduate programme if you perform well during the internship
The Culture
Mostly friday night drinks.
Drinks and food are not particularly affordable.
A couple of pubs in Canary Wharf but they aren't cheap.
There was a corporate social responsiblity event where we helped to do some gardening work in a park, a welcome event, a mid-term dragon boating event and an end-of-internship event.
