The Role
Really enjoyed myself, the work I did was interesting and exactly what I was hoping to gain more experience in.
Generally I found everyone was very welcoming and happy to help me get to grips with my work. I've found theres a great variety of people at EDFT and I never felt undervalued.
My manager has been happy to help me or spend time chatting with me when needed, and the 'buddy' system at EDFT has meant I've had another member of a seperate team who I've been able to go to for help and advice.
The work load has been quite reasonable, it started a bit slowly but once I had my main project I've had enough to do most days without feeling overwhelmed.
I was given charge of a personal project to develop a tool which will later be used by full time members of other teams.
I've been able to learn an entirely new programming language at EDFT, improve my software engineering skills, and gain a good base knowledge of different parts of the commodities trade through regular intern talks and presentations.
The Company
Very good, was given a lot of support with my work and also a lot of freedom to manage my work as I felt was best. I found the people around me were happy to help me in my work and to give me advice.
The program was very well organized, we were given a reasonable amount of time to settle into our positions in the office and throughout the placement various activities and events helped us learn more about the company.
Throughout the internship I took part in a number of talks and workshops designed to grow both skills related to my chosen field and my role in the company. For example, me and the other interns took part in a workshop on presentation skills.
Subsidised/Company Gym
I've made many contacts at EDFT, and having talked to my line manager I've been able to keep EDFT an option available to me in the future once I finish my degree.
The Culture
I got to know the other interns very well, which was encouraged by a number of intern events and meetings that took place during the placement.
I lived at home over the course of my internship, so It would be difficult for me to judge this. Working in central london I found to not be unreasonably expensive day to day.
The area around Victoria Station has several quite good pubs and restaurants available.
There were opportunities for me to socialize with my colleagues and other interns outside of work, and also a subsidized company gym membership.
