The Role
It was very interesting, as it gave me valuable insight on how a multinational company like Nestle operates. Furthermore, the activities I was involved in were very good also, such as the Dog Show which provided me with important information regarding our direct competitors and also showed me how dog shows can be important for our brand as Breeders are very important advocates of PRO PLAN and on these events, there are many breeders. In addition, I also went to an external advertising agency (Edelman), which provided to be very enlightening as the person at Edelman taught me a lot about digital and social marketing (the differences between each platform, how to get the most of each one of them, and what things are not allowed to be posted on the platforms). Finally, the team went on an external day which was very good and which I thoroughly enjoyed as it enabled me to meet and talk to a wide variety of people.
The people in my team were very welcoming and quickly made me feel at ease in the office. My brand manager was very nice and patient with me, and also she introduced me on the first couple of days to people with whom I would be in contact.
One of my major tasks was to do a weekly digital and social report in which I was studying the competitors , actions on different social platforms (Facebook, twitter, instagram and Google). After I would show these to my Brand manager and team, they would give me very good feedback, which I tried to incorporate in the next report. When I was tasked with writing a Brief for the external agency, my brand manager gave me some very useful tips to get me started and helped me transfer the ideas I had mentally on a piece of paper with enough detail so that the reader could understand what I wanted to do and reduce the possibilities of a misunderstanding.
On a daily basis, i would be quite busy checking the different digital platforms and preparing the PowerPoint presentation adding details, and making sure that their was a good balance of Pictures, links and writing. Also, when I had to get in touch with the external agency, I spent a fair amount of time writing my ideas on the Brief for the agency. When the agency came back to me with a proposal, I also had to ask them to make changes and update the proposal in order to maximize the benefits and attractiveness of my plan.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility as my reports were sent out to the whole of the Specialist Marketing team in order to inform them of the actual activities of our competitors and also, showing the team which brands were doing well and why. In addition, I was the direct contact with the external agency to do a special event to promote and increase awareness of PRO PLAN within the Nestle community.
As I previously wrote, my weekly social and digital reports were done on PowerPoint and as the weeks went by, and the feedback was given to me, I felt like my PowerPoint skills improved and also my research skills also increased as I had to sort out the relevant posts from the irrelevant ones. In addition, the couple of days I spent at Edelman were also very good and educating as they enabled me to figure out the differences between each important platforms and how to maximize the attractiveness of the posts and therefore increasing the possibility of having people look at the different posts and possibly interacting with them.
The Company
The atmosphere was a very nice one, people were very welcoming and open. During the day, there was a lunch break when you could just relax and talk to very nice people. In addition as there were people from many different places, it was very nice to talk with them and getting information from them on the differences between UK and their home country (or London and their home city)
It was very well organized as at the beginning of the internship, all the interns went to York in order to get information on the Company and the different branches that compose Nestle,. Also, during the internship, their was an agency day when all the interns went to an agency and got to see from the eyes of an agency the kind of work they do compared to from the eyes of Nestle. (Although it would have been even better to have this day earlier during the internship as it would have helped in some tasks).
As I previously said, I undertook a week of training on Social and Digital Platforms, in order to help with my different Reports.

Working from home
The future employment prospects are very interesting as Nestle has a Graduate Scheme project in which right after graduation, a person comes to Nestle and the company help in the growth of that person and after the scheme, there is a possibility of a full term contract.
The Culture
With the other students, we would meet for lunch at the company's cafeteria in order to catch up. Also, we would sometimes go to places to go out at night.
I don't know as I was living in an other area.
As Gatwick is quite close to London and fairly easy to get there, we would ususally go to Clapham Junction for some nightlife fun. It was very nice and entertaining. Also, East Croydon have some nice places to go out in.
On the Intranet, we would be sent some emails with some different possibilities of activities. Which were very diverse (from Barbecue to going to the O2 Arena )
