    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed coming into work because of the people I was working with. However, my project did not really stimulate me so some days were not enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Some colleagues really took an interest in my work, regularly asking for updates on my project progress. They were always open to questions and made this clear from day one. Socially, they were very easy to get along with, very nice people.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a project and it was my responsibility to go and do it as I thought best. Managers were open to discussions and questions.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • First seven weeks my days were busy completing my project. The last three weeks I was analyzing data and mostly working on a presentation for the executives and touching up on the project.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was the first person attempting to do the project that I was given so I believe there is a lot to learn for my colleagues from the work I have done. In terms of daily responsibilities I was left to work on the project throughout the entire internship. I would have liked a bit more responsibility given the range of tasks that my colleagues were carrying out.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Project management skills are probably the skills set I will take into my degree and future career. I was hoping to have a technical learning experience. In the end it was mainly research and data entry into a spreadsheet which I guess teaches you perseverance.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I started the internship during the World Cup and everybody was really into it. The atmosphere was great. My colleagues were focused professionals but also had time to discuss and even watch matches. Everybody did their job, everybody gets along well and has time to have a few laughs.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were several 'lunch and learn' training sessions, once every two weeks or so. These were presentations by members of different departments of the business on their business area over lunch. It was a great way to learn about different areas of the business apart from your own.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a few very useful workshops; presentation skills and recruitment skills. These gave us an insight into how HR of a massive organisation look at recruitment, what they look for, how to nail interviews etc.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would consider a role in the company however, there is no formal graduate scheme. Do a good job as an intern and it is possible to secure a role after your degree depending on the needs of the business.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the interns usually had lunch together on the grass outside or in the kitchen. The company also organized a day out to the London Eye for the interns to get to know each other a bit more. All my colleagues were very easy going, easy to get along with. Social events after work were quite common especially during the world cup. Played football once a week with colleagues.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The internship was in central London so the cost of living is a bit high. I would recommend bringing a packed lunch.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Plenty of restaurants around.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Opportunities to get involved in charity events.

    2/5
