The Role
My placement year has been very interesting and surprised me with the amount of responsibility and trust you are given. I worked as part of two important project deliverable teams working both on client site (preferred) and in the Accenture home office. The type of work has always been interesting and challenging. One element of feed-forward that could enhance the experience is to ensure IP members who have come from a project with exposure maintain the same or similar on another role as it can lead to demotivation.
At BP I felt exceptionally valued by my colleagues as they would often tell me of the good work and or acknowledge me in meetings. However on the RBS Account, I feel that I rarely got recognised in any manner by the Team. Whether this was in the rewards and recognition email outgoing each month (office politics here) or via email/f2f meetings
On the RBS Account management interaction was exceptionally limited and reaching out to other team members facilitated my learning here and day to day tasks. However on the BP Account, interaction with both my BP line manager, directors and recruitment buddy was exceptional. All had the time to help with any query, especially when I grew as an important member of the team.
I always had items to be doing and the quality and variety of the work was wide.
The level of responsibility given to me on both accounts eventually was surprisingly high and the amount of trust provided was significant. For BP I was ensuring that contracts remained sound and processsing very important items of back office admin, which left untouched would detrimentally affect the account. Eventually, I was running the majority of invoicing and contract items for the majority of BP senior managers or directors on the account. At RBS I was running the day to day maintenance of the pre-employment screening.
Hugely - in terms of utilising Excel and Presentation Skills.
The Company
At the BP Office we always acted professionally as we were exposed on client site. However, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. At RBS the atmosphere was of a faster pace and notably more serious.
The internship was very well set up and maintained. However, I feel it would be beneficial if the HR representatives touch base with the 12 month IP team more regularly and ensure changes to the process (e.g. contract offers) are communicated to us ahead of time.
I attended a series of town halls which had trainings as part of the daily set up. Moreover, I had to complete the compulsory online trainings. With reference to extra outside the scope above, in terms of development the firm has contributed significantly to growing my experience in several different sectors. Furthermore, it has significantly enhanced my skills and expectations to the type of work that is avaliable as an analyst consultant. It was a great experience.
