The Role
Enjoyed it though I did not have a huge variety of work thanks to the fact I had one large project to undertake in my time there.
My colleagues were great, however due to the nature of my internship I was placed in a department where no one else was undertaking work in the same area as me. Therefore I did not have the opportunity to gain much assistance from anyone on a regular basis. However from a social point of view, everyone was very welcoming!
My supervisor was very good, even though he worked in a different part of the country and was constantly travelling. Always happy to help even when he was extremely busy.
Occasionally I struggled with boredom thanks to the monotony that ultimately comes with excessive excel work.
I was working independently for a lot of my time in Shell, and was given administration responsibilities from my first week.
I improved my excel, report writing and presentation skills, as well as gaining an understanding of how to get into my industry of choice. This was all thanks to informal conversations with those in the office in that industry. Everyone was very willing to give me the time of day.
The Company
Work hard and play hard!
No issues with communicating with HR etc and contacting my boss beforehand. The interview process was also very well arranged etc
Many of the courses I did were online etc, and therefore required little effort on behalf of my boss. However I was given huge amounts of helpful material to help me understand engine and fuel jargon I was using on a daily basis.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I will hopefully be given another years internship with the company in a similar position. However the nature of my future career means Shell will not employ in that role as I will take many years to qualify which Shell will not fund.
The Culture
Yes, though everyone was spread out around London, so socialising was sometimes hard to organise.
London is expensive, but Shell pays well so not a huge issue.
Good pubs etc in Canary Wharf and all of London to enjoy!
If you take the time to do so it's very easy.
