The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my placement and my experience will help me during my degree and for furter internships and graduate jobs
Had my own project to complete and helped out collegues when i was free
Manager and supervisor provided great support encouraging me to work independantly but not be afraid to ask for help. This meant I gained the most I could from the placement
As I had my own project to complete in the 10 weeks I was busy all the time but i was never overloaded with work - stuck to my project plan
I was given more responsibility than I thought I would which was great. I was in charge of my project which meant organising the relevant meetings and reviews, carrying out the analysis and writing up the report.
My personal and technical skills have developed immensly during the internship. I enjoyed working in a team and learning to use Abaqus software will definitely help me as i progress with my degree
The Company
Atmosphere was great. Had the right balance of work and fun
Very well organised. There was a project waiting for me when I arrived and computer access was sorted out very quickly.
No official training was required for my project but my supervisor spent time taking me through what I would be doing and the processes to follow
Very appealing. The returners brief was very useful and I will definitely be applying for further internships and hopefully the graduate scheme
The Culture
Good group of colleagues but did my own thing in the evenings and weekends. Was definitely made to feel part of the team
I was located in Derby where accommodation was reasonable. I didnt stay in halls so the socail scene wasn't great but I had plans at weekends anyway.
Had to keep up rowing training in the evening so didnt experience the nightlife in derby. Was alson living on the wrong side of the city for this.
The team had a few social evenings but otherwise you had to find stuff top do in the evenings. Several gyms you can join which is useful.
