    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lubrizol, they have been a pleasure to work for and take great care of their employees

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were always very welcoming when joining a team and the support and feedback they gave truly made me feel valued and that I was contributing in a real way to the team and the company.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given advice on the technical parts of my role, but I felt the real value that I received in this space was advice about being an IT professional in the business world for example; how to be valuable to a company, how to act, learning to work with customers, and advice on where my career could go. I couldn't have asked for more in this area!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I worked on multiple projects during my time at Lubrizol but they were started on in intervals so as soon as I felt the workload dropped on a project, I would be talked through another project and start to work on that so I was also busy but never at a pace I couldn't handle. If I ever felt it was too much I could talk to my colleges and they would advise on how I could arrange my project time or assist in helping with projects.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Much like the projects I had this was built up over time while on my first project the work I did was set out for me, by the end I was lead programmer and architect of a project which took from start to finish, so I definitely had plenty of responsibility and this is something I truly appreciated in my placement and was so happy to be given the opportunity to do so

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My technical skills will assist me in my degree as I will be basing my final year project on the work I have done here, but the most important skills will be the ones I've learned in the soft skills space, for example: working with customers, arranging meetings, and conducting myself in a business environment

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is very friendly where I work both in the department and my section where I work with other placement students.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As I was only the second person on my placement role at Lubrizol it wasn't seamless but there was structure I had the chance to shadow the last student for a while and then move onto projects that my colleagues thought would be both good for my development and that I could contribute to in a meaningful way

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had an online training available to me which proved to be very helpful and I was able to go on some business trips to some of our other sites in the UK

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to continue my role at Lubrizol

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With after work sports clubs, a monthly sports and social club events, and the student community the students all got on, talked and arranged events together

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Derby has a reasonable cost of living but I was living at home during my placement so I feel I cant comment to heavily in this area

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Derby is awesome for nightlife, we have lots of pubs and clubs all grouped in the city center so you can stay in one place or hop between places. There will be somewhere that plays the kind of music you like!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Especially within the student community, but we also had the sports and social club and the occasional work event that everyone could attend

    5/5
