The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working on my project. It provided me with a lot of experience in my chosen field and provided a good insight into the industrial side of engineering.
I felt very valued by my supervisor with whom I'd often have direct contact. I felt rather disconnected from the rest of my team however.
My supervisor was very helpful throughout, and would always provide as much help as possible or direct me to someone better suited. My department manager also organised a few meetings with me to make sure that everything was going well.
I would always have something to do, however there weren't too many tight deadlines so I was always able to gain a thorough understanding and read around what I was doing.
I was in charge of my project. Although help was always available, I was able to decide or have an input into what ought to be done to reach my goals.
The skills that I've developed will most likely directly help me in my degree. Whether or not I choose to remain in the same area of study I'm sure they'll prove invaluable at my job.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was cheerful. I'd often find myself quite isolated at my desk however. The atmosphere in the lab was quite relaxed and fun, the technicians were always a pleasure to talk to.
I think the internship was well set up. From the moment I arrived there was a clear goal in mind and a senior engineer was assigned to me which helped me to learn the ropes.
During the first week we were shown around the company and received interesting talks and demonstrations about how things worked. From there we were then able to book onto courses in which we were able to learn skills useful both for our specific application and for a career in engineering.

I am very happy with how my internship has gone at Dyson, and will be considering them when I start looking for more permanent full time employment.
The Culture
Both the induction event before the internship and induction week at the start of the course provided a great opportunity to meet some fellow placement students and colleagues. I have made some great friends during my internship at Dyson.
The cost of living in the Bristol suburbs proved to be very reasonable. Our rent was just under £400 a month, buying food locally was quite cheap, and there would often be some free events happening in Bristol.
I worked in a small town, thus the nightlife was non-existent past a few pubs. Living in Bristol provided the best of both worlds at the cost of an hour long commute each way.
Dyson provided many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, from airsoft to joining a jazz band. With so many employees you'll often find a group of people doing most things.
