The Role
It has been great fun. Eveyone is very nice and friendly.
I was given enough responsibility that I felt like I was making a good contribution to the work of the team.
Everyone was very happy to give advise and to help (even occasionally playing devils advocate). I felt like I could go and talk to the seniors if I ever needed anything
I was always occupied during the day but there was no expectation to stay any longer than the contracted hours.
I was given my own project with another intern. The project was something the team genuinlly really needed to have done.
I think my time at Dyson will probably be more useful for my time outside of academia than for my future studies.
The Company
The office had a fairly relaxed atmosphere. People were always bringing in cakes and biscuits and going for tea breaks/lunch as a team.
Everything ran smoothly. During the application stage there could have been a few emails to confirm that things I had done had been completed correctly. After the interviews the organisation seemed to improve hugely and everything has been great since
I was able to do any training that made sense for the time I was going to be there. I was given the same equiptment and software licenses as long term employees
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Really love the job and it has been really great fun but I would need to think about whether I wanted to live in this part of the world after I graduate
The Culture
Intially the social scene among the interns was excellent but it slightly petered out as the placement went on and people started to have other commitments on the weekends.
The cost of living wasn't that much lower than during uni (London). I found it particularly expensive because I had to pay rent both in London and out here.
In Bristol the night life was good but only about half of the other interns (and other employees) lived there. This meant organising nights that included everyone was sometimes difficult.
Yes, there were lots of 'extra-curricular' activities availible including sports clubs etc. There are also 'Team Socials' and company wide events which are lots of fun
