The Role
Really enjoyed my placement! CRUK is a wonderful environment and everyone is genuinely nice and friendly. The role gives you real responsibility such that your work is a real contribution to the team's effort.
Was always given support ad feedback. I had weekly 1:1 with my manager and had the opportunity to work with different members of the team.
My manager was very active in my development with weekly 1:1 checking on my progress so I never felt alone or abandoned. Other senior members of my team were also very involved and down to earth and friendly. Despite being an organisation keen on organograms, there never seemed to be an sense of superiority or hierarchy amongst team members.
Some days you are busier than others in particular towards the end where you are tying up loose ends and ensuring that you are delivering according to the objectives.
I was given my project that I had to complete over the duration of 12 weeks. The Project brief was according to the team's needs and what is needed to be done. The work I did there was of real value. I wasn't just doing basic admin duties or treated like an assistant.
I've learnt a lot about working life, working for a large organisation, as well as the charity sector and Public Health in general . A lot of training and advice is given in terms of CVs, using LinkedIn, you can even sign up to their Career development service and attend skill based workshops usually for staff.
The Company
Its very down to earth and laid back. The charity is very flexible and focussed on individual personal development.
It was fairly well organised and run. I wish I had more opportunity to shape the tasks that were required of me.
