The Role
I always felt valued and was given a lot of responsibility at an early stage. I got to see a wide variety of the work Grant Thornton do and learnt a great deal.
Everyone I worked with was very welcoming and appreciative. I felt like I was part of the team very quickly.
I was assigned a line managaer on my first day who kept in contact with me regularly and was always available if I needed help. I was also in contact with the managers for the individual jobs I was on.
I was given a wide variety of task to complete but never felt I was given too much to cope with. The people I was working with were always very helpful.
I was given a lot of responsibility at Grant Thornton, completing sections of the audit myself and talking to the clients on a one to one basis. This was much more than I expected but gained a lot from it.
As I am doing an Accounting degree this experience will give me real insight to what I am studying. The presentations skills course I attended will help in presentations I need to give at University and later on. Also as I was completing work similar to that of what a graduate would be doing I will be more prepared for when I finish my course.
The Company
As I was out on audits for most of my internship I was with a small group most of the time, these always had a good atmosphere and were relaxed while productive at the same time. There were several social events that I atteded which improved the atmosphere.
Before the internship I was given information on when I was starting and what to expect. I was given lots of opportunities to ask questions and given contact details for my buddy. At the start of the internship I was told what I would be doing every day of my internship which helped me organise myself.
I was given a lot of hands on training during my internship and felt that everyone I was working with invested a lot of time in teaching me what I needed to know.
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered and accepted a graduate training job with Grant Thornton
The Culture
There were many social events organised for the office and all the interns met for the presentation skills course and corporate social responsibility day.
I was working in the Glasgow office which is very close to where I live so I had no further costs to cover. Glasgow is quite a cheap place to live.
The nightlife is varied and very good,
There were many social events to attend and also opportunities to be involved in a variety of sporting events.
