The Role
I Hugely enjoyed working in Visual Merchandising at L'Oreal. My line manager was hugely supportive and my team were both welcoming and understanding of my lack of experience (.. I had none whatsoever). My workload was intense and did require a lot of dedication but when you are in charge of a UK and Ireland wide launch, it's worth it! L'Oreal is a very people driven culture with a relaxed non-corporate attitude, however everyone is also very driven and works hard.
My team have been fantastic. HR are also extremely supportive and accessible. The intern network is well arranged with a commitee and regular socials if you want to participate in them. We even had a summer intern afternoon arranged, with scavenger hunts, free food and drink and a pub quiz, so much fun!
My Line manager has been a breath of fresh air! Both personable, professional and very willing to offer any guidance. On trips away opening stores in Liverpool and Bath, my team and manager has spent multiple hours chatting to me about their career and giving me advice. All interns also had a coffee morning with our General Manager recently which was really great as well!
It varies. If you are willing to apply yourself and knuckle down things can get VERY busy, but immensley rewarding. Other interns have seemed to be less busy but I think this is due to them not being pro-active about their experience here. Honestly, I do lunch at my desk a lot and get out later than 5:30 most days but I love my job so for me- coffee breaks and chats around to the intern/team members on my floor is a great alternative to an hour long lunch break.
I can't believe how much responsibility I have been given! From day 1, you are directly responsible for running a little bit of your brand (s). Yes, a lot of tasks are small and largely consists of admin passed down, but from working in Finance in the past, coming here has been brilliant! As mentioned, I organised all propping for a UK and NI launch and that was given to me in my 5th week here!! In my role we are also responsible for launch guidelines distributed to all stores, creating the planograms (on planogram software), liasing with suppliers contractors and its the only internship i've had where I felt I was actually needed in the organisation.
I haven't been back to uni yet since my intenship butit has definitely openend my eyes to new opportunities and careers outside the box! Marketing/VM skills have been greatly developed, however my professional, people and work skills are what has seen the greatest improvement,
The Company
Great atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Not corporate at all. Team events, Bar 255 (internally run by brands) is once a month on a Thursday. Opportunities for hair cutting and styling were regular. HR are a dream and even run nice half day events for summer interns.
Very well organised generally. Application process was VERY fast. From my application submission to the call post-assessment centre saying I was hired was 2 weeks! I know this does very though as some people didnt hear back for 3-4 months.. Internships do seem to vary in experience across the different divisions/companies but LABS has been brilliant!
Greatly, Online courses were available (I jsut never took ym opportunity myself). My expenses were paid so I could accompany my team on store openings across the country. Regular intern review meetings and catch ups with my team members.

Very appealing. The nature of the grad scheme isnt portrayed as easy but I am extremely interested in returning to L'Oreal for my placement year and potentially thereon for the grad scheme if I can. Always displayed as competitive but attainable for all interns showing good prospects within L'Oreal.
The Culture
Yes, a good committee and HR were brilliant. Possibly the committee could've been aided in organising socials by HR more at the start? Often fallen apart on the evening i've heard!
Extremely expensive but then it's london so what do you expect! I've commuted in to save money which has been a lot better as the pay is intern pay and must be hard to cover costs if you're paying £170+ a week for your room!
Really good, Kensington was an expensive night out but i'm sure you can fid cheaper if you look/know where to go! Living in LDN would greatly help this..
Mostly. Most socials seemed to be around nights out which didn't work if you were a commuter unless you slept on someones floor. HR did more day type socials but these were much less than other socials obviously! This is an area that could be improved by L'Oreal but then I organised a intern meal out with my floor which was great so dont forget to actually organise thigns by yourself!
