The Role
I really liked working at KPMG - the ethos was very friendly and welcoming - whilst KPMG is naturally a corporate firm it doesn't feel as corporate as other Big4 offices I have visited.
I was made to feel part of the team and always invited out to team and department events, which made me feel less like an intern and more like a normal employee! Everyone at the company seems friendly and more than willing to go that extra mile to make your day.
I was allocated a buddy on my first day who always checked up on me and made sure everything was ok. Each client had an in-charge who was more than happy to answer any questions I have and never made me feel bad for asking questions - everyone wanted me to learn and went out of the way to make that possible.
I always had work to do however I rarely had to pull overtime. If I had personal commitments which required me to leave early/arrive late, these were always permitted subject to me making up the time.
Lots! I was given sets of work and left to my own devices to get it done (with help offered of course) which meant me talking to and meeting senior client staff at a regular basis - a lot more responsibility than I was expecting and in some ways a little daunting - I loved the responsibility however a bit of training would have been reassuring.
The skills I have learnt involve team working and managing client relationships, both of which I know will be useful in any walk of life.
The Company
Very friendly and lively. whilst there are moments where everyone is quiet, a few hours later everyone will be happily chatting away about things; everyone seems very friendly.
There was a lot of information sent at the last minute and swipe cards were late. I'm still to know what I do on my last day...
There was an induction day and on the job training. there was also an elearning system but beyond that there was little training. I could request feedback but I appeared to exist outside of the internal professional development system.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing, they seem very keen to take on new staff and everyone I spoke to really wants me to stay.
The Culture
I was the only intern in my department so I cannot comment here - no company wide events were organised.
Reasonable but then I live in London anyway.
I'm not one for clubs and the like but I know there are many nice bars nearby.
KPMG appear to have many clubs and societies but I didnt join any.
