    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Excellent, it exceeded my expectations. Received real work to do and felt part of the team. Got to work on range of IBD activities, pitchbooks to live deal work

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very friendly team. Can be clique-y at times but overall welcoming and encouraging of interns. Want you to learn as much as you can.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 100% support from my staffer. He understood the background I came from and gave me very helpful tips to make the most of the internship.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • IBD is a very up and down job so some days not much work at all while other days extremely busy. 9am-11pm were average hours and usually some weekend work for a couple of hours. But I didn't feel these hours were too much, got used to them

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Suprisingly quite a lot. As analysts were on holiday and new 1st year analysts had not arrived yet I was sending out the work to the VPs, MDs etc

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not related to my degree apart from the generic skill of producing high quality of work late at night when tired. It also taught me to have strong attention to detail, the bank expects perfect pieces of work.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the mornings very quiet but as day went along gets more lively. Evenings are nice when everyone has dinner together in the conference room. People chat a lot and are evidently good friends given that they spend a large amount of their day in the office!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised. Excellent HR team who ensured there were activities set up outside of your usual divisional work. For example every 2 weeks we had a senior speakers event which was interesting and made for a pleasant change from the usual routine.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You got out of the internship how much you chose to put in! Everyone in the bank was friendly and always willing to meet up for a coffee and answer any questions you had. My team organised extra training sessions at the start of the internship

    4/5

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely be interested in pursuing a career with the bank, they have an excellent analyst programme in place. They seem keen on taking on as full time as many interns as possible.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes definitely, we all had dinner together every night and organised weekend trips regularly. It was great that we all shared a similar mindset- work hard, play hard.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive, canary wharf rent! Usually had social events in Central London rather than in Canary.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Canary wharf does not really have a nightlife! But London Bridge is just 10 mins away on tube for a good night out.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Work took up all day so during weekdays not at all. However weekends I usually got at least one day entirely off.
