The Role
I enjoyed my internship a great amount, I enjoyed going to work, which was different to all my previous jobs!
I was made to feel very valued indeed, considering I was completely untrained I was made to feel very useful.
I was given support whenever I needed it, on the first day I got my mentors number as well as someone who was overseeing all the mentors, so even when it was out of business hours I could contact him.
Out of 8 weeks I only had maybe 3 or 4 days where I was left without a full days work to complete. Despite this I never felt overloaded, and the people who I was working with were very organised about work allocation to maximise mine and their own time,
I was given as much responsibility as any other member of the team, they trusted me from day 1 to go and talk to clients and work totally independently. All work is reviewed however so this makes trusting an intern easier.
I gained not only skills in business and accountancy, but also soft skills like dealing with slightly difficult clients and manageing people and workloads. These skills wont really contribute to my degree but I never expected them to, considering the difference between my internship in accountancy and my physics degree.
The Company
There is a relaxed atmosphere in the Leeds office. Most of the time I was at client offices and generally the mood was fairly relaxed. There was an added feeling of formality and a feeling that you should constantly be cracking on with work whenever a manager was around, but that is standard for most formal working environments I suspect. I had one week where I was working with 2 very quiet colleagues which made the atmosphere a bit boring, but you'll get quiet people in every business.
Very well for me, I constantly had work and jobs booked. But one fellow intern was left trying to find work fairly often, and I feel this could have been arranged more effectively before he arrvied here.
We did not study for any qualifications, but I wouldnt expect or want to over an 8 week internship. So although I was invested in by other member of the company spending their time explaining things to me, there was no specific training of sorts that I could place on my CV.

I am told that a very large number of interns (90% +) recieve graduate job offers. So hopefully I will be offered a job at the end of it, but everyone around the department who has gone through a similiar process says this is very likely.
The Culture
There is a fairly good social scene, we went to one work social at the races which was all paid for. However I think a lot of friendships made at the firm happen when everyone goes to the accounting college. Socials are relatively common but not as common as some other firms I have heard of.
I lived in my student house which was very near the firm offices and I consider where I live (Leeds) to be fairly good value for money and accomodation
Leeds has the best nightlife outside of london.
It sounds like there are a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, but they definitely make out that there a lot more than there really is throughout recruitment. Most activities seem to be organised without firm involvement.
