The Role
Very much so, the work was rewarding and I was given a wide variety of tasks. I dealt one on one with senior members of client firms and all the teams I worked with were good fun. My only complaint was there was very little organisation on KPMGs part for events with the other interns. This is something we had to organise ourselves and it was difficult to do so.
I was treated as an important part of the team and tasks given reflected the confidence they had in me to produce good work.
We were placed straight onto jobs after only 1 day of induction but due to good support from colleagues this was a benefit not a drawback. Any help needed was provided all the way through.
For most of the time I was given a good amount of work so that I was alsways busy but never overworked. There were a couple of days where the workload was light and I was just helping out on small tasks as they came up. On average I worked 9.30 till 5.30 while in the office and 9-6 while on client sites.
I was treated as an important part of the team and tasks given reflected the confidence they had in me to produce good work. I was given a large amount of responsibility in completing tasks individually and dealing one on one with senior members and financial controllers of client firms.
I gained a good insight into how businesses, in particular finance departments, operate and are managed. The skills picked up will translate well on a CV such as working in teams, problem solving, client facing etc. The skills are largely trasferrable to other professions/departments so it is useful to gain general experience if you are unsure on career paths.
The Company
Differed on different teams but generally very fun and enjoyable.
We basically had an induction day and then got given out timetable of jobs for the next 8 weeks. This meant I always had structured organised work however no socials were organised for the interns and as we were split up across different departments I was only in contact with a couple of the other interns.
I learnt by doing the job. There was no specific training after the induction day but I was part of the team and was doing the same jobs as the graduates.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Most interns are offered graduate jobs at the end of the internship.
The Culture
As mentioned previously this was the biggest problem with the internship but feedback to KPMG should change this so it is more structured in the future.
London is notoriously expensive. This was to be expected and pay is higher than in regional offices
London - so expansive and expensive
There was football, cricket, bowling, drinks and meals on the teams I worked on
