    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed learning something completely new and my colleagues were amazing which really made the entire placement that much better.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was seen as part of the team and was not patronised or treated differently. They expected me to do a job just as much as everyone else. Of course, help was always given when asked for!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance was excellent, with everybody, not just management and my supervisor, available any time I needed them, either by email, phone or in person - I always had somewhere to go to for support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload varied, with it soemtimes being quite hectic, while at other times there was little work to do. The balance was good as it allowed for me to see what a job would be like here in both busy and quiet times. The quiet times allowed me to spend more time on tasks, ask for more help and really explore the work I was doing so that I could gain a better understanding.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allocated different sections of the audit as appropriate (generally the simpler tasks, but not always), but these carried just as much responsibility as any other team member's work. I was expected to interact with the client in the same way and was treated as an equal member of the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • While my placement is not directly relevant to my degree, the skills developed here should hopefully help me in my future career as I wish to apply for a job at KPMG, but I learnt more than just audit work during my placement, which will be relevant to everyday life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and welcoming, relaxed, yet still professional. Overall, a very enticing place to work!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised, with specific mentors allocated to all the interns so that we could be guided through the placement. The managers and other colleagues at the office were very well prepared for the interns as the internship has been running so successfully for so long in a variety of different formats, whether it be the school leavers, vacation program or graduate role.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • KPMG encouraged me to develop areas outside of audit and it was primarily these qualities which were assessed throughout my placement. KPMG are very keen for the internship to lead in to the Graduate scheme, hence the high level of development they invest in you.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing as I feel as though the company has invested in me and that I can create an interesting and stimulating career should I wish to. The perks associated with a full time job are also very attractive and would enhance the work/life balance.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! There were 3 interns on my internship at the same office as me and we all became very good friends very quickly. We all helped each other with work and generally had a good time. The comaraderie definitely made the internship more enjoyable and I'm sure we'll stay in contact in the future as we all plan on working for KPMG after we graduate.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I did not live in the same area that I worked in, but overall the cost of living and socialising in the area seemed relatively average and perfectly manageaable on the associated salary.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not take part in the nightlife in the arera that I worked in, but I was told there are many opportunities available.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, KPMG organised an away day for the audit team where we went to Woburn Safari Park and took part in Go Ape! so that we could all have fun, while still bonding as a team. A crazy golf social was also organised for both audit and tax at one of the local crazy golf courses which was a lot of fun. There is also a winter sports related event coming up in September, but this is unfortunately after my placement has finished.
