The Role
Overall the internship has been a great experience. It has been a pleasure to meet and work with the other interns and colleagues.
The team I was placed with were very quick to accomodate me and give me enough responsibilities for me to feel like part of the team.
Other analysts and managers were quick to help, answer questions and provide any guidance necessary for me to complete the tasks I was set. Even outside the team, management in general at UBS is very approachable.
I was very busy, had to work on a large project which filled a lot of the time, as well as day to day tasks.
I was given responsibility for completing my project, performing controls, day to day work and dealing with ad hoc requests.
Excel skills including development of macros will be useful in the future aswell as general skills such as time management etc and a deeper knowledge of the wider industry.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was much more relaxed than I expected, whilst everyone was hard working, for the most part people were very friendly and chatty.
My internship was well organised throughout, though some other interns on the program had problems being placed in areas which had little prior warning of their arrival. In addition to this, IT access was not set up prior to the internship and for most interns gaining systems access took roughly another week.
One week of full training which was very comprehensive and included IT training at an outside company. Also, several lectures and training courses were available throughout.

The Culture
3 social events held by UBS. There were over 100 interns so plenty of opportunities outside of these events to socialise, go out for drinks etc.
London in general is quite expensive, rent, food and bar/pubs in the City in particular.
East London bars/clubs are within walking distance, otherwise, the rest of London is easy to get to from the central location.
A volunteering day was held at a local sports club which was compulsory. Other volunteering days were also available at numerous points during the internship.
