The Role
Really enjoyed my placement. The work I was given was insightful and varied. From the first day you have real responsibilities and are communicating first hand with clients. Would highly recommended Smith & Williamson both for employment opportunities and for prospective clients.
A very friendly environment to work in. Given lots of support and guidance on all my tasks. No such thing as a stupid question! Also a very good office social life, with lots of events organized. I went to a BBQ, played cricket and several lunchtime drinks trips on Friday's.
Excellent support and guidance was provided to me from the first day. All the staff are very approachable should you need reminding of something or need help or guidance with a task.
As soon as a task was finished, there was always something else available for me to do, never a bored moment in the office! Quite often deadlines had to be met and jobs had to be done within certain budgets. So always quite busy!
Not just photocopying and making cups of coffee, I was given real responsibilities right from the off. Within half an hour of being in the office on the first day I had a real tax return in front of me!
As I have done tax modules as part of my university degree I had a reasonable theoretical knowledge of tax. Working as an intern at Smith and Williamson has been invaluable for me converting theoretical knowledge into real world practice. This will help me hugely in completing my degree and towards obtaining my professional qualifications.
The Company
Very pleasant atmosphere in my office with all the staff from interns to partners being extremely friendly.
The internship was well organized with different areas of tax covered. I was given a real flavor of all the tax services that Smith & Williamson provides.
I received training from interns, managers and partners. Everyone was extremely helpful and approachable with training.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, it is a reasonably large company with multiple offices that is well regarded in the industry.
The Culture
Excellent!
Living costs are reasonable, the socializing scene is on the expensive side but not too unreasonable.
Having sampled a few restaurants and bars around the city, there is an enjoyable evening scene. Although it is a little limited in what it has to offer being a very small city.
Lots of opportunities. Invited to multiple BBQ's, to play cricket and football for the firm and always encouraged to get involved.
