The Role
Really enjoyed it, I was working on real products that were being delivered to customers and so was always pushing myself to do my best. I was actually being involved in the company instead of being side lined with a fake project designed to keep me out of the way of others. Several team building events occurred and the intern hackathon was a lot of fun as well.
After a while of working here you were taking part in group discussions about the project that your team was working on. My voice was always heard and my ideas were discussed just the same as everyone else's.
My manager was always happy to offer any assistance that I needed. Always happy for me to ask a question and quick to offer me an answer/explanation.
I was kept busy most of the time. There was always a lot of work to do, unfortunately there were times where work was slower due to a lack of information provided by the customer or people who were on holiday.
I was working on an actual project that was delivered to an actual customer, so I was essentially given the same responsibility as all of the current employees of the company.
A great deal, I learned to code in several different languages and I learned lots of new coding methods which will definitely help me in future.
The Company
There was always conversations going on around the place that were fun, you were welcome to listen to music as you worked and the work was always interesting so was never dull.
Very well organised, the office knew when I was coming and had got everything set up. I was informed of where I would be staying and who with months in advance. Only bad point was that I was only told what I would be doing about a week in advance, would have liked to have been told a little earlier.
They taught us all the skills needed, namely programming, by simply letting us get on with work. If we ever got stuck they would help us through the problems and give us advice.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
2 weeks before I finished I was offered an interview for a job with them. I believe that this is a regular occurrence within the company. Of course, you still have to do well in the job interview but it's nice to be asked.
The Culture
The office I was in was very small so there wasn't many interns, plus there weren't many places around that we really wanted to go to. However, in the other offices that were a lot bigger the social scene, so I have heard, was "buzzing".
The company ensures that all the interns pay exactly the same rent no matter which office they are at so the rent was quite cheap. Shops and activities were also relatively cheap. Very cheap gym near by the office.
Never went out... didn't want to.
There were a few chances, a couple of company do's, some office sports games and the like.
