The Role
The placement was thoroughly enjoyable and, despite some of the work being repetitive, it was still great to know that I was learning something new everyday. Obviously, as with any job, there were always times that may not have felt so enjoyable but overall the work was great and I know that those down moments would have still occurred in any other job.
I felt extremely valued. I was given a lot of responsibility from the off set and was hosting my own meetings with managers within the first month. There were a lot of new ideas that I had for one of our processes and I was allowed to run with it freely. My manager fully supported my project but trusted me to carry out the work independently. I also knew that I had the support from our team if needed; they were a very tight close knit team who support each other well and welcomed me in as if I had been there for years!
Mentioned above.
There were a lot of times where I felt that I had a lot of work to do - and I did! Although, to be honest, that is how I prefer to work. Luckily, when I did feel quite overwhelmed with work, I knew that one of the members of our team would always be there to help me out! This was greatly appreciated when I wasn't around to carry out some of the day to day work due to meetings in regards to my project.
A lot! It was great to feel so involved!
I learnt a lot of skills around planting the seed in order to allow your ideas to grow with people. My particular site had a rather old work force and although very knowledgable, they sometimes were not so keen to have change. Learning how to get these people on board and to have their buy in was key for a successful project. This skill is most certainly one that i will have for life! I have also found that the leadership and management skills learnt with the Air cadets and University Officer Training Corps have highly aided me this year.
The Company
Fun, relaxed yet hard working. A great balance. They worked hard to get the product out of the door as soon as possible and done properly while also being able to have fun and participate in the daily pop master challenge on radio 2! They were a great team to work with!
Umm.. as the third set of interns, there was still work to do but overall it was fairly organised.
Half and half... our development was mainly gained from being thrown into the deep end, however, this is something that suits me more as I am forced to learn so much quicker! A more structured training plan could have been in place from the beginning though.

Very. I would be keen to go back. GE Aviation offers some great graduate schemes.
The Culture
Yes. We all socialised regularly. We often had lunch together most days and we also had a few out of work social events throughout the year.
It wasn't as cheap as chips as I lived in a nice part of Hamble, but I would say that everything was still relatively fairly priced!
Hamble was good for the yachting scene and Southampton was good for clubs and bars. Best of both worlds really!
Yes. I was involved in a few! I absolutely loved my out of work activities.
